About Festival

This time, the program of the Eighth International Festival of Chamber Artists and Ensembles "Silver Lyre" has been enriched by two concerts, and consists of ten concerts showcasing talented musicians from Bulgaria, Germany, Georgia, Hungary, the Netherlands, Israel, Japan, and Russia,who will demonstrate their art of chamber music.
The increase in the number of concerts is primarily due to the desire of the organizers to bring to the festival stage a larger number of domestic musicians, who will appear in the four evenings of the "Silver Lyre".
Two concerts - the first and the last - will be held in the Great Hall of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, and the eight remaining - in the Small Hall of. M.I. Glinka.
The program of the festival includes various chamber genres, among them are compositions for piano, violin, viola and cello with a chamber orchestra; piano trio and piano quartet; quartet of saxophones with piano; a duet of violin and cello, solo violin and cello evenings, as well as two solo pianos and one vocal evening.
The festival will open in the Great Hall of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic with the concert of the Chamber Orchestra «Symphonyetta of St. Petersburg» and four soloists - Alexei Ludevig, Ilya Ioff, Peter Laul and Alexei Massarsky, performing instrumental concerts by Schumann, Mozart, Mendelssohn, Haydn and Schnittke.
The festival will close at the same venue with a solo vocal evening of the Russian singer Nadezhda Kucher, who has recently ascended to the musical Olympus. Together with the St. Petersburg pianist Dmitry Pavliy, she will perform arias from the operas of Meyerbeer, Delibes and Massenet. The remaining eight concerts will be held in the Small Hall of. M.I. Glinka and will feature:
- the international duet of the Netherlands violinist Frederick Saeis and the Japanese pianist Miki Aoki, performing Ravel, Poulenc, Ysa?e, Gershwin, De Falla, Liszt and Sarasate;
- the Piano Trio of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Society consisting of Dmitry Pavliy (piano), Igor Zolotarev (violin) and Nikita Zubarev (cello), who will perform the compositions of Mozart, Mendelssohn, Yuon and Slonimsky;
- the winner of the Listov Contest, the young Georgian pianist Mariam Batsashvili, who will perform various works of the great Hungarian composer and pianist;
- a duet of Hungarian musicians - violinist and cellist - brothers Sandor and Adam Yavorkai, presenting an extensive program of compositions by Haydn, Kodai, Wieniawski, Paganini, Ernst, Bartok and Halvorsen;
- a well-known and beloved in St. Petersburg pianist PolinaOsetinskaya, this time acting as interpreter of Preludes, Musical moments and famous transcriptions of Sergei Rachmaninov;
- the exquisite genius of Israeli cellist Amit Peled, who has already visited our city many times, presenting to the listeners compositions of Kodai, Bloch, Kassado and Rachmaninov together with the Bulgarian pianist Stefan Petrov;
- a peculiar "Alliage Quintet" from Germany, consisting from the piano and all four varieties of saxophone. Daniel Gauthier, Koryun Asatryan, Simon Hanrat, Sebastian Potmayer and pianist Young Yong Bai will introduce the original arrangements of the most famous works of Saint-Saens, Khachaturian, Rimsky-Korsakov, Bizet, Gliere, Lyadov and Shostakovich.
And, finally, in the last concert of the Small Hall of. M.I. Glinka, listeners will meet with the German piano quartet "Fore", a former participant of the "Silver Lyre". Violinist Erica Geldzetser, violist Sasha Frembling, cellist Konstantin Heidrich and pianist Dirk Mummertz will perform Brahms’ Third Piano Quartet and their version of Mussorgsky’s "Pictures at an Exhibition".
The organizers sincerely thank all the participants of the festival for their consent to take part in the musical forum which has already become a tradition, and hope that the "Silver Lyre" will continue to acquaint listeners with the best achievements in the art of chamber music.
